Libby Wood

Libby Wood

LLP Member and Head of Department

Libby heads up the Child Care Department working out of the Chesterfield office.

She qualified as a solicitor in 2002 in Nottingham, moving to Elliot Mather Matlock office initially to take up a family law solicitor post in 2003 after she moved to North East Derbyshire. Libby found she particularly enjoyed children related work, and decided to pursue a career specialising in children/child care law, dealing predominately with child protection issues. Libby was made a Partner in the firm in 2014.

Libby is a Member of Resolution and the Law Society’s Children Panel Accreditation Scheme, meaning that she can represent children as well as parents and other family members in care proceedings and other related proceedings, e.g. contact with a child in care, discharge of a care order matters and adoption cases. Libby has experience of dealing with a variety of cases involving many complex issues, in different courts from the local Magistrates Court to the High Court in London and in Birmingham, and even the Court of Appeal. Mostly Libby can be found representing her clients in the Magistrates and County courts in Chesterfield and Derby.

Libby aims to provide constructive and practical advice, to achieve the best outcome possible for her clients. Libby is careful in her approach to what are often extremely sensitive and difficult situations for her clients to find themselves in, so that she can guide them through each stage of the process.
